PERSONALIZATION

There have been several scriptures that I have leaned on through the years, often memorizing them so that they would always be right there, ready for me.

Psalm 55:22, Psalm 3:3 and Psalm 34 (whole) are ones that I memorized and that I encourage others to read and, if possible, memorize.

When I started to learn this portion from Psalm 33 (verses 4 through 9), I felt the Lord putting it on my heart to learn it a different way.

This is how it reads in the Word of the Lord:

PSALM 33:4-9

"The word of the Lord is right and true;

He is faithful in all He does.

The Lord loves righteousness and justice;

the earth is full of His unfailing love.

By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,

their starry host by the breath of His mouth.

He gathers the waters of the sea into jars;

He puts the deep into storehouses.

Let all the earth fear the Lord;

let all the people of the world revere Him.

For He spoke, and it came to be;

He commanded, and it stood firm."

How I learned it was in a more personalized way.

This is how I memorized it - as a praise and conversation with God:

PSALM 33:4-9

"Lord, Your Word is right and true

and You are faithful in all You do.

You love righteousness and justice

and the earth is full of Your unfailing love.

By Your Words, Lord, the heavens were made -

their starry host by the breath of Your month.

You gather the water of the sea into jars and You put the deep into storehouses.

Let all the earth fear You; let the people of the world revere You.

For You spoke, and it came to be; You commanded, and it stood firm."

I remember the way the papers of my Bible stuck to my face when I fell asleep on the open pages. I memorized both this portion of Psalm 33 and all of Psalm 34 when I was at a difficult place in my life. I stayed up and read the chapters over and over and over again.

May I challenge you to find a "strength-scripture", even one verse, and memorize it by making it personal between you and God?

When you can't find words to pray, open the Bible and pray from God's Word. It will open things in you that you didn't know where there. Prayer will become more and more fulfilling as you incorporate the Word within it.

“True prayer is neither a mere mental exercise nor a vocal performance. It is far deeper than that - it is spiritual transaction with the Creator of Heaven and Earth.” ~ Charles Spurgeon
